Delhi 2025 polls: AAP fails to hit 50% vote mark in all regions

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), after nearly a decade of governance in Delhi, has conceded defeat in the 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections. The party recorded a significant erosion of its vote share across all the regions of the capital, with particularly sharp declines in New Delhi and West Delhi.

The following analysis is based on votes counted till 5.30 pm. The story will be updated when more votes are counted.

AAP’s vote share in New Delhi, West Delhi, North West Delhi and Chandni Chowk declined by over 10 percentage points in the 2025 Delhi election, compared with the 2020 polls. AAP’s vote share in New Delhi and West Delhi declined by 12.5 percentage points each to 43% and to 41.9% respectively – the largest such drops for the party among all regions.

AAP’s vote share declined by over 8 points in East and North East Delhi to 42.3% and 44.9% respectively in the 2025 polls. Even in South Delhi, where the party performed the best in 2025 , its vote share dropped by 6.6 percentage points to 47.8%.

AAP failed to secure 50% vote share in any region of Delhi this time, in stark contrast to its performance in the previous elections, where it surpassed the 50% mark across all regions. AAP’s loses were BJP’s gains as the national party managed to make huge inroads into most regions of the capital city.

The BJP and its allies secured over 51% of the vote share in West Delhi, marking a substantial improvement of 11.2 percentage points compared to the previous elections. The NDA increased its vote share in New Delhi from 37% in 2020 to 47.8% in 2025. Similarly, the NDA registered an impressive 8-point increase in vote share across Chandni Chowk, North East Delhi, and North West Delhi. Despite making more modest gains in East Delhi and South Delhi, the party still managed to capture over 43% of the vote share in these regions.

The Congress performed better this election by making incremental gains in vote share across various regions of Delhi. Though its overall vote share was just 6.4% in 2025, a 2% point increase from the previous polls.
